Volunteer Featured in AMNewYork

AMNewYork featured one of our young volunteers in their recent article on NYC teen boys and men that are giving back to our city by volunteering. They quote the national volunteer rate as 28.8% of women — but only 22.5% of men, leaving males in the minority when it comes to volunteering. This piece turns the spotlight on 5 male New Yorkers volunteering at various local organizations to support their community, including our very own Steven De La Cruz!

We are so very thankful for all the guys (& gals) who volunteer their time to support us, we would be nowhere without their help (& yours).

Pedro To The Rescue – Saves Cat Stuck In Tree For 6 Days

When no one else will help, Pedro comes running (sometimes literally) to the rescue!

This cat had been stuck up in the tree for six days. People had reached out to local authorities and emergency services but no one would take the risk. It took a man with a giant heart to risk his life, climb up a gigantic tree (without professional equipment/resources) and save a tiny life. He knew the cat would not survive if he did not take action so he put it upon himself to get the job done!

Pedro is the owner here at New Beginning Animal Rescue, and this is not the first time he has gone above and beyond. Like the time he removed a 200lbs sewer grate to save a trapped kitten before a huge storm that would have killed her or the time he rescued two dogs thrown from a car.

Meredith Vieira supports the Bronx’s only no-kill shelter

Did you catch The Meredith Vieira Show this week?

You may have noticed a little feature that included your favorite non-kill shelter in the Bronx and it’s crew, including the brave and big-hearted owner, Pedro. You can just see the joy as they brought up their enormous PickMeUpTruck filled with wonderful goodies for all of the special fur babies donate by the Dog Gone Smart Pet Product Company! Then they had another surprise in store; a huge check for $20,000 donated by Big Heart Pet Brands presented to New Beginning Animal Rescue!! It was a wonderful day indeed! All the fur babies love their new toys and goodies, we are so grateful!!

We want to give a big thank you to Meredith, her crew, and Big Heart Pet Brands for their wonderful gifts. While we have constantly been struggling, beautiful gestures like this are what helps us continue our mission and keep supporting the animals and our community.
