AMNewYork featured one of our young volunteers in their recent article on NYC teen boys and men that are giving back to our city by volunteering. They quote the national volunteer rate as 28.8% of women — but only 22.5% of men, leaving males in the minority when it comes to volunteering. This piece turns the spotlight on 5 male New Yorkers volunteering at various local organizations to support their community, including our very own Steven De La Cruz!
We are so very thankful for all the guys (& gals) who volunteer their time to support us, we would be nowhere without their help (& yours).
When no one else will help, Pedro Rosario comes running (sometimes literally) to the rescue!
This cat had been stuck up in the tree for five days. Community members had reached out to local authorities and emergency services but no one wanted take the risk. It took a man with a giant heart to risk his life, climb up a gigantic tree (without professional equipment or resources), and save this tiny life. He knew the cat would not survive if he did not take action so he put it upon himself to get the job done with the help of volunteers!
News 12 in The Bronx shares the story of a senior cat from Brooklyn who went missing for 9 months, survived the winter, found himself in our Bronx shelter and now has finally been reunited with his owner. Happy Tails to him and his family!
News 12 visited Pedro Rosario’s new restaurant, La Casa Del Sabor. Pedro had opened this restaurant in hopes of supporting the shelter but now the restaurant is also not doing well and he’s reaching out to his community for support.
We recently held an in-house adoption event right in our shelter. The pets were so excited to see all of the visitors coming to see them. And many families found their newest family member. News 12 stopped by to take a look.
You may have noticed a little feature that included your favorite non-kill shelter in the Bronx and it’s crew, including the brave and big-hearted owner, Pedro. You can just see the joy as they brought up their enormous PickMeUpTruck filled with wonderful goodies for all of the special fur babies donate by the Dog Gone Smart Pet Product Company! Then they had another surprise in store; a huge check for $20,000 donated by Big Heart Pet Brands presented to New Beginning Animal Rescue!! It was a wonderful day indeed! All the fur babies love their new toys and goodies, we are so grateful!!
We want to give a big thank you to Meredith, her crew, and Big Heart Pet Brands for their wonderful gifts. While we have constantly been struggling, beautiful gestures like this are what helps us continue our mission and keep supporting the animals and our community.
